NIPPI, was established in 1934 on a site in Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture, and was involved in the production of aircraft for the old navy, including the Type 93 Advanced Trainer nicknamed the "Aka Tombo (Red Dragonfly in Japanese)".

After the war and the re-opening of the aviation industry, an aircraft maintenance factory was constructed next to Atsugi Airfield, and the company has grown and expanded as a specialist maker concerned with aircraft and space equipment with the development and production of aircraft structural assembly products and aircraft repair and maintenance as its core competencies ever since.

In April 2003, NIPPI Co., Ltd. was newly reborn under the umbrella of Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd.

Main lines of production for the company are:

  • Production of aircraft components, target systems, rocket components, and space equipment.
  • Aircraft repair, maintenance and modification.
  • Production of wind-turbine systems and marine equipment.
